Gary will teach 1 two-day class and 1
one-day class of caricature carving. His two-day class will be choices
of caricature roughouts, all of which are FULL-FIGURED, humorous
of Gary's design. His one-day class will be offering a choice of
small caricature busts and animals. Gary will give maximum individual
assistance to each carver and will encourage carvers to be creative
and work at their own pace. You will need your palm tools, knife,
safety glove, sharpening equipment, pencil and ruler. Be sure your
tools are sharp when you come to class. Gary is a founding member
of the CCA and is featured in Woodcarving Illustrated, Holiday 2008
issue, runner-up for TWG Best of Show 2009, and has authored several
wood carving books.
1A - WED-THU -- CARICATURE CARVING. Cost $90 plus roughout

Lloyd will teach 2 one-day classes this
spring. In his first class, Lloyd will teach gnome homes/elf inns
in bark. His second class will be Adobe Cliff Dwellings in bark.
He will supply the bark and instruction sheet. If you've never carved
cottonwood bark, it's a lot of fun and you'll have a good instructor.
Lloyd thinks you might need plenty of super glue for both these
projects. Your regular carving tools and woodburner are all that's
needed for carving.
Class size limited to 10.

Ron will be teaching one two-day class.
His project is a 10" female mantel piece. You will concentrate
on individual facial features and makeup of the face as a whole.
We will discuss some facial expressions and will teach one expression
and will help students with different expressions if desired. He
will furnish the roughout. No special tools are required. Maximum
of 10 students.

Marty discovered woodcarving 30 years
ago and is still amazed every time he creates a piece of art from
a block of wood . He has been teaching for 25 years and will be
coming from Papillion, NE. He will be teaching 3 two-day classes.
His first two-day class will be an11" Cowboy/Rancher. The second
two-day class will be an 11" Native American Bust and the third
two-day will be an11" Mountain Man Bust. These projects are
large and require the use of a mallet. Marty will bring his six-man
carving benches. These benches are adjustable so that you may stand
or sit down. The adjustable carving bench opens his classes to everyone.
You will need your mallet and mallet tools, palm tools and a carving

Project roughouts are $25-30.

John will be back again and he will be
teaching those wonderful medium relief carvings of his. He will
teach 1 two-day class, 1 three-day and 1 one-day class. The two-day
and three-day classes will involve the art of relief carving, specifically
medium relief. There will be a wide variety of subjects to carve
including architectural, animal scenes and Christmas (i.e., Santa
Claus). The one-day painting class is on the watercolor painting
style he uses on all his carvings. He will supply paint and brushes
for the paint class. Carving classes are limited to 12 students,
and the painting class is limited to 10. Project blanks are from
$25 to $35.

Don is back with us and will be teaching
a three-day relief carving class. He has several patterns to choose
from including barns, covered bridges, lighthouse, etc. Don is also
introducing a beautiful "Over the Door Header" using basswood
or butternut. You will need normal wood carving tools including
a 1/2" or larger V-gouge and a ¾" (#3) or larger
flat gouge, plus a wood burner. Project blanks are from $10 to $30.
Don will furnish all patterns.

Leah is bringing her carving talents to
our TWG Spring Round-up. She will be teaching 6 1-day classes of
her Nature's Rascals. It will take up to five or six days to finish
some of her projects which will include painting your project. Working
at your own pace choose the number of days you would need to take
home a finished project. Leah has a BS in education from Slippery
Rock University of Pennsylvania. She contributes to woodcarving
magazines and has authored her own book, "Carving Nature's
Rascals ". She has won numerous awards including "Best
of Show" in the artistry in Wood competition. Leah was recently
filmed for the "Wood Sculpting " series for the DIY network.
She has taught woodcarving for the past 10 years. Roughouts cost
$10 -35. Leah will furnish the painting supplies. You will need

The last five days will be your choice of a variety of projects.
Carolyn's new projects for this year are a photo album and a clock.
You will have a choice of several projects and may take one or more
days, depending on the project you choose. The cost will be $35
per day plus your project. A sharp chip-carving knife is all you
need to bring, but a light may be helpful.

Don will be teaching his Fancy Canes again
in 6 one-day classes. The students can schedule as many days as
they want, from 1 to 6 days. However, he strongly suggests you take
at least three days if you have never taken this class. Some of
the patterns he installs on the sticks can be done in three days,
but the more complicated patterns will take a day or two longer.
Time required for completion is dependent upon the pattern the student
chooses. You will learn how to put on a fancy pattern and how to
carve and finish it. After this class you should be able to do your
own fancy cane without help from anyone. Extra blanks will be available
with or without patterns. Tools required: carving knives, gouges,
and a background tool which will be available from the instructor.

a Full Bodied Pronghorn Antelope. You will take home a beautifully
carved and painted project. Hoyt taught this class in Creede, CO
and every student was very pleased with the class and learned a
lot. Hoyt will furnish roughout, paint, finish, and brushes. You
will need a woodburner and your regular carving tools. Maximum of
8 students.

2 one-day classes. Her first two-day class will be a "Chipmunk
on a Log". Her second 2-day class is a "Peeking Mouse"
You will learn the techniques for making fur and eyes and increase
your painting skills while carving these realistic life sized chipmunk
and mouse. Donna will furnish blank kit and painting supplies. Her
first 1-day class will be "Painting for Carvers". Learn
how color works by making a color wheel in the morning and painting
your finished unpainted carving in the afternoon. In her second
1-day class "Celtic Knot/Joined Hearts " you will create
the illusion of woven wood and then paint the carving. You will
need your sharp tools and woodburner for the carving classes. She
will furnish all painting supplies. Maximum of 8 students in her
carving classes.

Jon, a nationally known carver/instructor
specializing in faces, Jon returns from Colorado Springs, CO to
teach 4 one-day caricature classes. He will have several new projects
added to those he had last year. The 35+ rough outs include cowboys,
hillbillies, Santas, mountain men, Indians, snowmen, etc., and range
from $9-$25. For larger, more difficult pieces, you might want to
sign up for two days. Examples may be seen at www.jonnelsonwoodcarving.com.
The class fee is $45 plus roughout. *Jon will take beginning carvers
but ask that they have at least some carving experience. Tools required:
variety of sharp "v-tools" and "u-gouges", a
sharp bench knife, #7 ¼" fishtail gouge, pencil, 6"

You have the option of choosing from any of several floral relief
designs for each day's project. Several new projects can be carved
in shallow relief or deep relief carving. Also available will be
the very popular budding rose. Some of the larger, more detailed
projects may take all six days. They can be previewed at Charley's

You will need a 16-6 V-tool or a BIGCPVG 30-degree Denny V-tool,
#3 and #5 18 ¼" gouges, #3 1/8" gouge, #3 ¼"

Wanda will teach a two-day class and a
three-day class (see power carving section for the three day class)
this spring. Her two-day class will be the shallow relief that she
does so well on a basswood board 14"-16" long with the
bark on each side. Students will have a choice of scenes, animals
or birds or you can bring your own pattern that Wanda will help
you complete. Wanda will furnish boards, patterns, and paints. Special
tools required: 1", 3/8", 3/16" flat gouges, a hook
skew, detail knife, 400 grit sandpaper, paint brushes and light.
You will also need a controlled heat burner with tips C, G and S.
This class may require some special tools and if you sign up, Wanda
will contact you.

Patty and Adair are teaming up for a unique
experience. This will be a five days with them. You will carve with
Adair and paint with Patty. You will carve with Adair for 3 days,
carving a Santa of your choice from their roughouts. If time allows,
you can also carve an ornament or Santa from a stick. After completing
your Santa carving with Adair, Patty will step in with 2 days of
painting the Santas. You can check out their work on their website
www.christmascarvingsetc.com . Patty will also be busy the first
3 days teaching her wood burning with a soft shading technique.
The emphasis of these classes will be soft shading technique for
a photo realistic image; however, any style of wood burning is welcome.
She will supply everything needed for all classes except the woodburner,
light and magnifier.

class on Monday and Tuesday. This is a super class if you are just
getting started in carving or have carved for only a short time.
Tom will help you do several small projects and teach you the basics.
He asks that you bring a knife and a glove if you have one. If not,
talk to Tom. For those first-time carvers ONLY, the Guild will pay
for this class. Tom will follow his beginning class with another
beginning class doing caricature carvings of a donkey/mule. Bring
whatever tools you have. Maximum of 10 students in each class.

with a new Kachina-style doll. He will be teaching one four-day
class of a Kachina-style Doll "Warrior Mouse". Harry has
researched to learn the history of the dolls and what they stand
for. Harry will work with you to paint your project. He will furnish
all blanks, paints and brushes. You will need a woodburner and your
regular carving tools. Harry will accept intermediate and advanced
students.

Texan". These fellows will be fun projects that you should

tools. These are fun caricatures to work on and make great gifts
for kids, grandkids or just an old friend.

Toby and Elaine will be teaching combined
classes for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Elaine will be teaching
a Diamond Back Rattlesnake Cane. You will need Dremel coarse and
fine sanding drums, small ¼" gouge, woodburner, ½
to ¼" skew tip, and normal carving tools. Elaine will
furnish the blank, paint, and cane tip. Maximum of 8 students. Toby
will be teaching a 12" Eagle Bust(cost $120), a Loon Candy
Dish (cost $120) or Oriole and Habitat(cost $100). You will need
your Dremel coarse burr (red, blue or white), woodburner with skew
tip and your normal hand tools. Toby will furnish blank, paints
and base. Toby and Elaine will work together for their Thursday/Friday/Saturday
class. You will have a choice of Cardinal, Bluebird or Kingfisher
(new). You will need your Dremel, safe end bit, woodburner skew,
a dust collector, and your normal carving tools. They will furnish

long Speckle Trout. This is a beautiful fish that can be on a wall
mount or habitat base. Bring your own mounts or you can buy from
Instructor. This will be a power carving class that requires a power
carver and dust collector (a must). You will also need a knife,
some hand tools, large typhoon bit, big drum sander, small ball
and cone-shaped bits, small U gouge and V tools, a woodburner, tips
G & C, fish tips med & large, and paint brushes. Fish blank,
eyes, and paints will be furnished. Maximum of 10 students.

carve, texture and detail a realistic American Goldfinch. If time
allows painting your Goldfinch will be included. Cal will furnish
patterns, cutouts, painting guide and if time allows paint. You

stone, burrs(diamond/rubies), and paint brushes. Maximum of 8 students.

George will be teaching a beautiful fish
this Spring. I carved one of his in Creede and it is beautiful.
Blanks will be available in Butternut or Basswood . All of the fish
can either be realistically painted, lightly painted allowing the
grain to show through or left natural. If you wish to do any painting
or staining of the fish you will need to select the 4 day class.
A. Students will have their choice of a Rainbow trout, Brown, Cutthroat
trout, or a Bluegill. In butternut or basswood. This will be a 3
day class and will not require any painting; however a clear finish
will be applied. Cost $130.
B. Students will have their choice of a Rainbow, Brown or Cutthroat

grain to show through or realistically painted. Students may leave
the fish smooth, choose to put scales on by woodburning or by using
the veil method. This is a 4-day class. Cost is $150.
Tools and equipment needed: this is a Power Carving class. Students
will need a Foredom type power carver or Dremel. If you have a Micro
Motor carver such as a Ram, bring it also. If you want to burn the
scales, bring a woodburner. George will have scale tips available.
A dust collector is mandatory.
